Computers are programmed to play many games such as chess are computers by utilizing a specially designed algorithm which is not transferable to the other framework.
E.g. you can not play the checkers on a chess playing computer. If a General Game Playing System is well designed then it would be able to in other areas also. A better example is in providing intelligence for search and rescue missions.
